Jessica J. Jones

About the Attorney

A partner at the Law Offices of Smith & Jones, Jessica Jones has always had a passion for helping others. She volunteered in several pro bono programs during her time in law school at the University of California Los Angeles and also as an undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin. Jessica graduated fourth in her class from law school in 1985 and spent the next six years working for a defense firm that represented many insurance companies in personal injury claims. This experience gave her valuable insights into how insurance companies review claims, which now help her negotiate with adjusters and aggressively advocate for her clients.

Jessica has handled many cases involving catastrophic injuries, ranging from amputations and broken bones to traumatic brain injuries and paralysis. She has cultivated relationships with experts in fields such as medicine, dentistry, psychology, forensics, and vocational rehabilitation. This helps her attack the efforts of insurers and corporations to minimize the impact of a victim’s injuries on their life and prevent them from being fully compensated for all of their losses. Jessica understands that many victims want to complete the legal process as efficiently and smoothly as possible, and she aims to resolve cases through a favorable settlement when that is appropriate. However, she does not hesitate to go to trial when a defendant does not offer a fair settlement.

Part of Jessica’s motivation for becoming a personal injury lawyer stems from her family history. When she was eight years old, her uncle died in a tragic highway accident caused by a trucker who fell asleep behind the wheel. The insurer was able to resolve the case with a settlement that Jessica now recognizes was far less than what his family needed to handle the costs related to her uncle’s loss and the burdens that it created. She is determined not to let insurers take advantage of her clients as they face similar challenges caused by a serious accident or a devastating loss of life. During her decades of work at Smith & Jones, she has achieved many multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements, which gives her personal satisfaction in knowing that justice has been served.

Like her colleague, John Smith, Jessica is a member of the Multi Million Dollar Advocates Forum, the American Bar Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. She has been selected by Super Lawyers in every year since 2012. One of her most notable cases involved a helicopter crash in the Grand Canyon, which resulted in the deaths of three passengers and injuries to five others. The case received national attention because it exposed the deficient hiring practices of the helicopter touring company, which failed to ensure that its pilots received proper training before taking tourists on excursions.

During her time away from her legal work, Jessica enjoys traveling in South America and Europe. She has hiked through Patagonia, the Swiss Alps, and the Sierra Nevada of Andalusia. Rome is her favorite city to visit, in part because she is a lifelong fan of gelato. Jessica has two dogs (a golden retriever and a terrier) and a goldfish called Naomi.
